Inspired by @willcookwilleat, here are a few straightforward steps for making this classic Singapore comfort food at home. We're calling this a Tip instead of a Recipe because you'll be buying the main Yong Tau Foo ingredients instead of making them yourself. Feeds 3 to 4 people.
Step one is to find the fresh YTF vendor at your favorite local wet market. It's usually the stall that sells fish balls and fish cakes. Choose your favorites, about 18-20 pieces in total, and while you're there you can also buy a vegetable to go into the YTF broth e.g. cabbage, lettuce, kangkong, chives etc
Next, you assemble like the Avengers. Heat 2 pouches of MGK broth (can be any flavor and you can also mix and match the broths) in a large pot and bring to a gentle boil.
Gently place all the YTF pieces into the broth, along with the vegetable of your choice. Add salt and/or fish sauce to the broth and adjust to your taste.
Wait a couple of minutes for the broth to return to a low boil. That's your signal that it's ready. Top it all off with fried shallots or garlic, and a sprinkle of white pepper powder.
Enjoy!
May I know if the soup needs to be diluted by adding water or are 2 packets just enough flavour and volume for 4 pax?
